Mechanical Design Engineer - £40,000 - £50,000 + Benefits

Based from their UK headquarters in Oxford, Oxfordshire.

I am working with a hugely successful and innovative leader in engineered solutions. They are well established in completing large scale production for global companies as well as R&D applications.

They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team to support new and on-going projects in the UK. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of energy and enthusiasm with a passion for engineering design and problem solving. There will be occasions where you will be expected to travel overseas to visit customers, suppliers and company partners.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementation of design and departmental working procedures
  • Design, detail and assist with the build & installation of a range of mechanical items
  • Deliver as part of a small team the full life cycle of a project
  • Take ownership and responsibility for projects ensuring they are delivered accurately
  • Demonstrate an analytical approach towards solving complex tasks using initiative
  • Excellent communication skills in order to provide clear and concise information to others, as well as obtaining information for your own benefit. This is essential for efficiency within the engineering department
  • A high level of personal commitment and positive attitude towards project success is essential
  • Overseas Travel, flexible, weekend and extended working hours are required at times

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience and highly competent user of Autodesk Inventor or Equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience designing precision mechanical components and assemblies
  • Ability to produce accurate manufacturing drawings is essential.
  • Attention to detail with a methodical, logical and a considered approach to design work.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a professional clear and concise communication skills
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt within a fast moving and dynamic environment


Beneficial Experience:

  • Design of precision movement and position systems
  • Hands on practical experience in the use of basic assembly and workshop tooling
  • Experience of laser and inkjet systems


  • Minimum HNC/HND qualification in a relevant mechanical engineering subject
  • Experience of working in a similar industry with a practical experience is important for this role
  • Evidence of previous design work and achievements at interview is required
